Kongu Mangala Vazhthu: Folk Song Sung in Kongu Vellala Gounder marriages in Tamil Nadu

Kongu Mangala Vazhthu is a song recited exclusively in Kongu Vellalar Gounder (கொங்கு வேளாளர் கவுண்டர்) Marriages. This song was composed by Kavichakravarthi Kambar (கவிச்சக்ரவர்த்தி கம்பர்) himself. The song includes sequence of events from the inception till completion of Kongu Vellalar Gounder Marriage ritulas. It solemnizes the sequence of events in a dignified manner and represents the marriage as the Royal Family Wedding. The song also gives an account of Vellala Gounder Society, Culture, Social status, Life style etc., The also moves past the traditions, customs, values, beliefs from one generation to the next.

Kongu Mangala Vazhthu is the most prominent folk song sung in Kongu Vellala Gounder marriages in Kongu region in Tamil Nadu.
